About Us

In May of 1979, Barney Hampton of Hampton Funeral Service in Boone, North Carolina, and Dennis Henson formed a partnership to establish a funeral home in Johnson County, Tennessee. On September 12 of that year, Hampton-Henson Funeral Home was opened on Cold Springs Road in Mountain City. In December of 1980, Dennis Henson purchased Barney Hampton's interest in the business and changed the name of the firm to Henson Funeral Home.

The funeral home, which was designed and built by Hampton and Henson, features a large reception area, church-type chapel, two visitation rooms, a casket selection room, preparation room, and offices. The level lot has ample paved parking.

Dennis Henson owned and managed the funeral home until 1993 when he became associated with Heritage Family Funeral Services. Dennis remained as manager of the funeral home until 2002 when he retired from funeral service. The facilities of Henson Funeral Home are second to none. The building was designed and built by Barney Hampton. The facilities of Henson Funeral Home include a formal chapel, visitation areas, casket selection room, and private lounges.

On September 17, 2009 Scott Teague and his wife Beverly purchased the Funeral Home from Heritage Family Funeral Services and changed the name to Teague Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Scott moved to Mountain City in the spring of 2002 and instantly became a part of Mountain City and Johnson County. Active in many organizations, he truly serves the county in many capacities. Being a part of the community, Scott and Bev want to add their names to a list of distinguished owners. Their pledge is to  Not take your Trust for Granted. We will always meet the needs of the community and to serve you with honor and dignity.
